What Is the ECO4 Free Boiler Grant Scheme?
ECO4 (Energy Company Obligation 4) is a UK government scheme that requires large energy suppliers to fund energy efficiency improvements, including boiler replacements, for eligible low income and vulnerable households. ECO4 is due to run until 31 December 2026, after which the government's new Warm Homes Plan is set to take over funding home energy efficiency upgrades.

The Local Authority Flexible Eligibility (LA Flex) route lets councils refer households who are at risk of fuel poverty, vulnerable, on a low income, or living in a poorly insulated home, without requiring standard benefit proof. This is one of the most overlooked ways UK households may qualify for a free boiler upgrade, and our eligibility check looks at this route as well as the standard benefit based route.
